Dickson County has always had a special place in Phil Hall’s heart.

Whenever there’s a need in the community, Hall is usually one of the first to step up and help out.

The Dickson County Chamber of Commerce recognized Hall June 15 for his many contributions to the county as he received the Les D. Speyer Spirit of Dickson County Award at the chamber’s annual awards banquet at Montgomery Bell State Park.

“I am very honored to even be considered for this award,” Hall said. “It means a whole lot to me and I was very, very surprised.”

The chamber established the Les D. Speyer Spirit of Dickson County Award in 2004. Speyer was the founder of Tennsco, the county’s largest industrial employer.

The award honors an individual who goes above and beyond what is expected to improve the quality of life for county residents.

It is not an annual award. Rather, it is presented when someone goes the second mile and warrants the recognition, according to chamber CEO David Hamilton.
